A Basic Guide For Building A Website

by Tem Balanco

The internet is known as very powerful tool that allows the facilitation of networking, business and education to name a few; because of this, having a website has become a trend that allows many users of the internet to reinforce their position within such environment. To simply put it, a website is a connected group of pages over the internet that is regarded as a single entity that is usually maintained by a person, group or organization devoted to a certain topic or information and other closely related topics. A website is usually hosted by a single web server that can be accessed through the internet or a private local area network. Currently, businesses, educational facilities and even ordinary individuals make a website of their own in order to manage their activities simultaneously over the internet.

The importance of a website is always dependent on the reasons why a person wanted to have one. However, even if you have various reasons for using a website, the fact remains that it has several advantages that makes it a viable internet solution. For instance, if you have your own business, your presence over the internet is as important as you have your own store because it is within the web where you can advertise your services and nearly anything about your products for potential customers to see. Likewise, it is also a good means for you to inform, communicate, and provide support to other people.

Perhaps by now you have the desire to make a website for your business or personal portfolio but cannot move forward because you feel that it might be too hard to accomplish. Having your own website is not difficult as it appear. As a matter of fact, you can make your own website, or if you have the intention to establish an advanced site for your business to make it look more professional you can employ a web developer to do the job. However, if you want to make one just for personal use, you can simply resort to online tutorials to get everything started.

The first steps in creating a website is to plan what you wanted to incorporate into it, develop a domain name, select a hosting site and establish your target audience. Once you are through with the planning stage, you can now create your own website. You can either get a website building program if you do not have a keen eye for design ability and you intend to use the site for personal purposes; learn a programming language (HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript) and start everything from scratch; or use a free static site generator. Most of these options can be bought online or can be downloaded for free.

In order for your website to rank well in search engines, use strong keywords in your site so that whenever your audience type such keywords, your site will immediately come on the top of the search engine page; however, try minimizing the use of these keywords on a certain level as over doing it can affect the quality of the contents of your website. Soon after, upload your web site on the web host of your choice. After uploading your website, test drive your website; a usability testing can help you identify the areas within your site that needs improvement and clarifications. You can also submit your site on search engines to further advertise your services, or you can participate on blogs and forums and place your URL in your signature to create more traffic.

With the abovementioned steps, you can now make a website for your business or your personal portfolio. These are just few of the basic steps to consider when it comes to developing a website; there are still other information needed to be learned in order to successfully run a website. Always consider that the site you are creating is intended for a specific target audience that have needs, circumstances and frustrations. This way, you would be able to come up with a site that is a win-win situation for you and your website visitors.

When you want to make a website you have to consider not only your taste but also the preference of your target audience. A website should cater to their specific needs in order for you to generate more traffic over the internet. Always go for a website design that could be easily understood by people and it must contain helpful information so that people will know what you intend to offer them.
